YAML ↔ JSON converter

Paste YAML to get JSON, or JSON to get clean YAML. Errors show the exact line, so it doubles as a YAML validator for config files.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.

YAML gotchas

  • Indentation is structure. Use spaces, never tabs, and keep sibling keys aligned.
  • The “Norway problem”. In older YAML 1.1 parsers, unquoted no, yes, on and off become booleans, so a country code NO turns into false. This converter follows YAML 1.2, but quote such values to be safe.
  • Numbers vs strings. version: 1.10 becomes the number 1.1. Quote version numbers, postal codes and anything with leading zeros.
  • Multiple documents separated by --- convert to a JSON array.

Formatting or validating plain JSON? Use the JSON formatter. Checking a schedule in a workflow file? Paste its cron line into the cron explainer.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting keep comments?

No. JSON has no comments, so YAML comments are lost when converting to JSON and back.

Which YAML version is used?

YAML 1.2 via the open-source js-yaml library — the same parser many Node.js tools use.

Is my config uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser, so secrets in config files stay on your device.
